چکیده

High quality, interactive volume visualization is increasingly important as advancements in volumetric capture devices, increased GPU power, and greater interest from the biological/medical community are all currently happening. Researchers and clinicians want to access their data anywhere using a wide range of devices, from smart phones up to powerful multicore machines. Web based visualization applications are increasingly popular now that browsers are supported on nearly all computing platforms, and the new HTML5 standards enable graphical interaction without the need for proprietary plugins or additional APIs. In this paper, we present a novel, browserbased, out-of-core volume rendering tool that enables interactive rendering of large volume data on portable devices. The tool uses a client-server approach, where the rendering task is carried out on a server, and the interaction and viewing occurs through a client-system web browser.

Remote 3D Visualization using Image-Streaming Techniques

The visualization of large scale data sets is still one of the biggest challenges in scientific visualization. In the field of web-based visualization the handling of such data sets raises new questions: How to distribute the visualization task onto client and server machines? How to achieve interactive refresh rates? How to reduce network load? How to adapt the visualization to the network ban...

Texture-based Volume Visualization for Multiple Users on the World Wide Web

We present a texture-based volume visualization tool, which permits remote access to radiological data and supports multi-user environments. The application uses JAVA and the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML), thus it is platform-independent and able to use fast 3D graphics acceleration hardware of client machines. The application allows the shared viewing and manipulation of three-dimen...

Client + Cloud: Evaluating Seamless Architectures for Visual Data Analytics in the Ocean Sciences

Science is becoming data-intensive, requiring new software architectures that can exploit resources at all scales: local GPUs for interactive visualization, server-side multi-core machines with fast processors and large memories, and scalable, pay-as-you-go cloud resources. Architectures that seamlessly and flexibly exploit all three platforms are largely unexplored. Informed by a long-term col...

Information Visualization on the Web

A thin client, by definition, have minimal software requirements necessary to function as a user interface frontend for a Web enabled application and raises the issue of client vs. server data visualization rendering. Real-time visual data manipulation doesn’t translate well into a “thin” client. While the VRML file format allows distribution of visualization scenes to the Web, the user has no ...

Developing Interaction 3D Models for E-Learning Applications

Some issues concerning the development of interactive 3D models for e-learning applications are considered. Given that 3D data sets are normally large and interactive display demands high performance computation, a natural solution would be placing the computational burden on the client machine rather than on the server. Mozilla and Google opted for a combination of client-side languages, JavaS...
